However, aluminum alloy does not mean omnipotent — under severe weather conditions such as strong winds, heavy rain, heavy snow, salt spray, and extreme temperature differences, if the material selection, structure, or installation is not properly done, a series of problems can also be exposed. Problems That Aluminum Alloy Gazebos Face in Severe Weather
Strong Wind / Typhoon Weather: Swaying, Wind Pressure Deformation, Canopy Blown Off


Strong wind is the biggest test for aluminum alloy gazebos. Lightweight canopy structures may deform under wind pressure, and simple spliced models sway noticeably in high winds, posing safety hazards.


This is an aluminum alloy gazebo purchased by one of our customers from another supplier, which was damaged by strong wind. Afterwards, when I asked him why he chose this model, what he said to me made me realize this is a common thought among most novice buyers: they think a gazebo is just four pillars and a canopy roof, and since the price difference is significant, they feel they got a “bargain” by buying a cheap gazebo. Typical manifestations in salt spray environments:

  • Long-term exposure may cause oxidation spots on the alloy surface, affecting aesthetics and potentially accelerating localized corrosion
  • Ordinary powder coating without adequate treatment may show blistering and peeling after about 2 years
  • Iron hardware may rust and break within 2-3 years, directly threatening structural safety
  • Frequent thermal expansion and contraction in areas with extreme temperature differences may cause connector loosening


Preventive Measures:

  • For coastal/high-sunlight areas, use professional outdoor high-temperature electrostatic spraying that passes neutral salt spray testing
  • All connecting hardware must use 304 stainless steel; iron components are prohibited
  • Main frame connection points must be fully welded + seamlessly polished to eliminate false welds


Heavy Snow / Severe Cold: Snow Load, Frost Heave, Coating Cold Brittleness

In northern heavy snow regions, aluminum alloy gazebos must simultaneously handle the dual pressure of snow weight and low-temperature metal embrittlement.

Typical manifestations under heavy snow / severe cold:

  • When top snow accumulation exceeds the design load (snow standard approximately 30-40cm), beams may deform
  • False weld positions can easily crack directly under heavy snow accumulation
  • Melting snow forms water accumulation on top, causing frost heave that damages the structure
  • Ordinary powder coating may develop cold-shrinkage cracking in environments of minus 30-40 degrees


Preventive Measures:

  • For heavy snow regions, customize thickened profiles; design the overall structure for ≥ 30-40cm snow load
  • Install concealed water guide channels on top so melting snow drains along the channels without accumulating or freezing
  • Promptly clear snow accumulation from the top after heavy snowfall

High Temperature and Sun Exposure: Interior Heat, Coating Aging, Metal Roof Noise

Typical manifestations after high temperature:

  • Metal canopies have strong thermal conductivity; interior temperatures rise noticeably in summer, becoming stuffy without heat insulation design
  • Inferior paint may peel and fade within half a year
  • Rain and hail hitting the metal roof surface create noticeable noise
  • Thermal expansion and contraction under extreme temperature differences may cause joint problems


Preventive Measures:

  • Use motorized louvers / adjustable light roofs to block direct high temperatures in summer
  • Fill the canopy with insulation layers; use textured matte surfaces to reduce reflection
  • Use surface spraying with UV aging resistance, QUV aging ≥ 2000h (standard version) up to 5000h (coastal version)

Post-Extreme Weather Inspection Checklist

  • Connectors: Check all bolts and brackets for looseness; tighten and reinforce promptly
  • Canopy: Inspect for deformation, dents, or weld seam cracking

  • Drainage system: Clear leaves and sediment from gutters to ensure smooth drainage
  • Foundation: Check pillar bases for looseness, tilting, or settlement

(Regular maintenance — cleaning drainage channels of leaves and sediment each quarter, and checking sealing strip elasticity annually — can prevent 80% of weather-related problems)


Material Selection Recommendations for Different Regions

Coastal Typhoon Areas: The core risk is salt spray corrosion + strong wind. Key configuration: coating + pillars with ≥ 15cm embedded fittings for reinforcement.

Northern Heavy Snow Areas: The core risk is snow load + low temperature. Key configuration: low-temperature fluorocarbon coating + concealed water guide channels + thickened beams (fluorocarbon coating requires additional purchase).

Southern Rainy Areas: The core risk is leakage + high humidity. Key configuration: double sealing + 1%-3% drainage slope + concealed drainage gutters.

Southwest / Northwest High Sunlight Areas: The core risk is UV aging + temperature differences. Key configuration: high-weather-resistant polyester + insulation filling layers.
